Abstract
The article reflects on Ernesto Codignola, presenting the various phases of his thought. In particular, it examines the “stages” of his intellectual development, beginning with his adherence to idealism and fascism, moving through the transformations in his thinking after the Matteotti murder and the Lateran Pacts, and culminating in the third stage, marked by his encounter with Dewey’s thought and pragmatism. In particular, the article introduces the Dossier and contextualizes Codignola’s relevance today, both for his editorial work and for his ability to build relationships within the local community and promote a vision of democratic education that remains relevant in the 21st century. .
