Abstract
Moving from the biography of Paul Ricœur, which highlights the ethical and political implications of his reflective philosophy, this article concentrates on the interpretation and symbols in the author's thought, in relation to philosophy, hermeneutics and pedagogy. Finally, the article focuses on the fertile dialectic between hermeneutics and semiotics, arguing that it is primarily in the relationship between the multiplicity of meanings expressed by culture and the formal structures of narration that the possibility of understanding — and, consequently, the formation of the self — opens up for the human being.
