Writing the Literary and Cultural History of Radicalism in the English Revolution

Abstract

Literary analysis of the rhetorical techniques and resources of some of the key texts produced by mid-seventeenth-century radicals reveals them to be sophisticated readers and writers who were not excluded from mainstream intellectual culture but rather appropriated aspects of that culture in a moment of historical crisis to develop languages of subversion, opposition and reform.
