Abstract

Cristinacce è uno dei tanti borghi che compongono la «geografia umana» della Corsica, costellandone i possenti rilievi: una cinquantina di semplici case di pietra disposte in fregio a una strada, che attraversa secolari boschi di castagni, e raggruppate intorno a una piccola chiesa. Qui, sul sedime di una costruzione diroccata, impossibile da recuperare nelle forme originali, una nuova architettura restituisce astrattamente i volumi perduti e ricerca un dialogo con le preesistenze a partire dalla esibizione delle proprie differenze linguistiche e strutturali.

Cristinacce is one of the many small villages scattered across the rugged hills of Corsica which make up the island’s ‘human geography’. It consists of roughly fifty modest stone houses clustered along a road that winds through centuries-old chestnut woods, and grouped around a small church. Here, on the site of a building that is now in ruins and can no longer be restored to its original form, a new architecture abstractly reconfigures the lost volumes, while establishing a dialogue with the existing structures precisely by highlighting its own differences, both in terms of style and structure.
