Abstract

The article deals with traumas, of different intensity, expressed by Hikmet in his verses, composed from his adolescence until his death, in different existential and political phases of his life as an exile, a prisoner of his own homeland and an honorary and monitored guest of the USSR, where he found shelter and safety, but also censorship and disappointment. The suffering that he endured, dealt with the perception of dramas animating the history of the colonized world of the early 20th century, as well as the discontent experienced in the USSR’s satellite States. This perception seems to become real and definite thanks to his cosmic and mystic conception of human beings, in spite of the accusation and declaration of “materialism” against the poet and claimed by the author himself.
