Claudio Parmiggiani – Faro d'Islanda

Abstract

Nei primi anni Duemila, su invito dell’Università d’Islanda, Claudio Parmiggiani concepisce e realizza nei pressi di Reykjavik, un icastico faro collocato nell’entroterra islandese, un’immagine evocativa, che si erge come una guida immersa nel paesaggio desolato e primordiale dell’isola. L’opera è un imponente monolite in ferro, una vera e propria architettura scultorea dalla forma telescopica a pianta circolare. La struttura del faro si rastrema progressivamente verso l’alto, culminando con una luce perennemente accesa: un segnale silenzioso che assume il valore di un simbolo atemporale di orientamento e presenza.

In the first years of the 21st century, Claudio Parmiggiani was invited by the University of Iceland to design a lighthouse in an inland area near Reykjavik. The result was a striking and symbolic structure that stands like a beacon amid the island’s desolate and primordial landscape. The monument is an imposing iron monolith, a true and proper sculptural  architecture with a telescopic shape and a circular base. The structure of the lighthouse gradually tapers upwards, and culminates in a light that is perpetually lit: a silent signal that becomes a timeless symbol of guidance and presence.
