Abstract

Unico tra i progetti di Louis Kahn ad essere stato costruito postumo, 38 anni dopo la sua scomparsa, il parco memoriale dedicato al trentaduesimo presidente americano Franklin Roosevelt, ricavato sulla punta meridionale di Roosevelt Island a New York, rappresenta un esercizio di adesione formale e tipologica alla topografia del sito di progetto dove silenzio ed economia dei mezzi espressivi del fare architettonico costituiscono gli elementi del comporre.

The memorial park dedicated to the 32nd U.S. president Franklin D. Roosevelt, set on the southern tip of Roosevelt Island in New York City, is the only project by Louis Kahn to have been built posthumously, 38 years after his death. It represents an exercise in formal and typological adherence to the topography of the site, where silence and economy of expressive means in terms of the architectural practice constitute the elements of the compositional process.
