Abstract

In this article we present an examination of the representation of the Virgin in “Loores de Nuestra Senora” by Gonzalo de Berceo – an exponent of Medieval literature dedicated to Mary – and in Juana de Ibarbourou, a spokeswoman of 20th century Uruguayan literature. Even though both authors are situated along different temporal and geographical axes, at first reading, in both works, we observe the presence of several important convergences and contaminations. But, what is the idea of the Virgin in the two poets? And what is the kind of landscape configuration in the two texts dedicated to Mary? By a comparative analysis, following the theoretical and critical approaches of Jean-Pierre Richard and Michel Collot, our aim is to answer to this kind of question.
