Abstract

This article presents a selection of texts illustrating, by means of private writings, aspects of the history and culture of women in Florence from the late 19th century to the present day, in particular from the years when Florence was the capital of united Italy to the First World War, and from the 1930s to the anti-Fascist resistance movement up to women’s literature in the late 20th century. The material covered consists of unpublished writings belonging to the extraordinary “deposits” of women’s writing unearthed by years of research which is still ongoing on the part of the   Associazione Archivio per la memoria e la scrittura delle donne.
