Il "Bilderatlas" nello studio di Giorgio Agamben. Note sul montaggio nell’iconotesto contemporaneo

Abstract

Based on early research by Michele Cometa, this essay proposes a theorization of intersection among different kinds of iconotext by analyzing Autoritratto nello studio by Giorgio Agamben (2017). Some iconotexts having the layout of an illustrated book contain images within images assembled by following the layout of an atlas. By comparing the cited work with Mnemosyne Bilderatlas by Aby Warburg, this article shows that the repetitions of images, the displacement of details from a board to another one, the capture of different phases through photography, the empty spaces among images, and the presence of texts in images, are all elements present in Warburg and in Agamben, and show a tendency of the iconotext to create a work in progress in which the montage gives movement to the visual work.
