Abstract

This paper presents some experiences of self-organisation implemented in L’Aquila after the 2009 earthquake, framing them as parts of a process of identity recover and re-appropriation of common goods. In particular, it highlights how, in the hard post-seismic context, examples of social reconstruction are built around these experiences, as opposed to a model based on the subtraction of the dwellers‘ decision-making power. The paper briefly describes the main features of the local context and the experiences developed before 2009. Then it retraces the long period of conflict between the frenetic first moments and the consolidation of two self-managed spaces. Finally, recognising that the earthquake has caused huge de-territorialisation processes, tries to assess limits and successes of such local movements.
