David Chipperfield. Restauro della Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlino

Abstract

Chipperfield è riuscito a restaurare e aggiornare la Neue Nationalgalerie di Mies van der Rohe senza perdere di vista l’integrità dello spazio e dei suoi valori originari intervenendo a livello planimetrico e sulla facciata di vetro. L’ampiezza di sguardo con la quale è stata condotta l’operazione ha permesso di considerare gli aspetti tecnici non come fatti in sè ma come traduzione materiale del pensiero teorico di Mies.

Chipperfield was capable of restoring and updating Mies van der Rohe's Neue Nationalgalerie without losing sight of the integrity of the space and its original values, by intervening at the planimetric level and on the glass facade. The breadth of vision with which the operation was undertaken made it possible to consider the technical aspects not as facts in themselves, but rather as the material translation of Mies van der Rohe's theoretical thought.
