Abstract
If in recent years the theme of abandonment, the problem of depopulation and as a result of the countless case studies for the physical, social and economic reappropriation of villages and rural areas involved a small group of professionals and communities, today this theme is enlightened by a renewed spirit of interest. This is demonstrated in this sense by the countless initiatives of the media and the scientific community, which are increasingly interested in the issue of abandonment and re-inhabiting smaller places. The article proposes a partial experimentation of a recovery of a village in the Province of Lucca. On the slopes of the Apuan Alps, behind the tourist Versilia, the rural village of Cerreta San Nicola attempts a timid signal of repopulation.
A small village on the Versilia hills between 500 and 700 meters above sea level, it represents a typical half- coast village that is not yet a moun- tain and no longer a hill, which like many other villages, in similar orographic conditions, has suffered a slow and unstoppable abandonment. The end of the Second World War kicked off the period of greatest mass depopulation, and today the country is represented by a single inhabitant and the use of second homes at the weekend. A project-program for the recovery of the old rural village is proposed below; today, partly achieved through the restructuring of some real estate units, the activity is continuing through individual private actions which in the future, hopefully not far away, may end with a shared action of definitive recovery.village in the Province of Lucca.
