Abstract

The article is the result of a research carried out from September 2020 to July 2021 as a project for the master's thesis of the Architecture and Construction City Course at the Politecnico di Torino. It was developed through several interviews with institutional actors and representatives of associations operating in the area, including: Intersos, Io Ci Sto, Casa Sankara. It was enriched through a photographic survey and a guided inspection carried out in June 2021, as well as through a recognition of literature from different disciplinary backgrounds. The aim is to problematize the category of rural, which is by no means univocal, as is clearly shown by the reading of the impacting economic dynamics affecting the territory of the province of Foggia and their spatial repercussions. The research uses the territory of Borgo Mezzanone, where one of the largest informal settlements in Italy is located, as a case study, relating it to the dynamics that govern the production system in this territory.
