Abstract
Alberto Bonetti, Professor of Space Physics in Florence for almost 30 years, contributed to numerous initiatives and activities that characterised Italian astrophysical research during the last century, which are detailed in this article. We remember his contacts with Giuseppe Occhialini and Bruno Rossi in relation to research into cosmic rays and solar wind, the first stratospheric balloon experiments to study the cosmic background, and the challenge posed by understanding the processes governing the depletion of the stratospheric ozone layer.
