This paper aims to investigate the theatrical realization and resolution of the opposition between courtesan and rustic space – corte and aldea – in Los carboneros de Francia, an anonymous palatine comedy composed at the end of the 16th century. In particular, the article will focus on how this dichotomy materializes through the configuration of the represented fictional spaces, where the contrast between the physical and metaphorical “openness” of the aldea and the “closure” of the corte emerges, resulting in a form of “correction” of the literary topos of menosprecio de corte y alabanza de aldea.
