Abstract

Italian-Swiss architect and art promoter Alberto Sartoris (1901-1998) was the first to bring to the Italian publishing scene an unusual model of architectural treatise, which had its characteristic traits in a polemical use of the text and in the spectacular nature of the images chosen. Published in 1932, Sartoris’ Gli elementi dell’architettura funzionale highlights an important history and theory of architecture photography. The aim of this paper is to analyze the extensive and constant presence of Sartoris in international exhibitions, debates and conferences developed in Europe since the 1920s in relation with his most important editorial operation.
