About the Journal
The Italian Journal of Anatomy and Embryology, founded in 1901 by Giulio Chiarugi, Professor of Anatomy at the University of Florence, is a peer-reviewed journal sponsored by the Italian Society of Anatomy and Histology (SIAI).
The journal publishes Original Articles, Review Articles, Brief Communications, Perspective Articles, Letters to the Editor, and Book Reviews. Its primary aim is to advance the understanding of anatomy through the analysis of structure, function, development, and evolution. Priority is given to studies that clearly articulate their relevance to the anatomical community.
The journal’s focal areas include experimental research; contributions based on molecular and cell biology; applications of modern imaging techniques; comparative and functional morphology; developmental biology; functional human anatomy; methodological innovations in anatomical research; and significant advances in anatomical education. Studies that are primarily descriptive in nature are considered only if they clearly convey broader functional or evolutionary significance.
All submissions must be written in English and must represent original work that has not been previously published or is under consideration elsewhere. An international Editorial Board, supported by expert reviewers across anatomical disciplines, ensures a rapid peer-review process, typically completed within two to three weeks of submission.
All manuscripts are screened for originality using Crossref Similarity Check (iThenticate).

(APC) Article Processing Charges
Page charge: Authors should be charged for articles.
All articles published in IJAE are open access and freely available online, immediately upon publication. This is made possible by an article-processing charge (APC) that covers the range of publishing services we provide. This includes provision of online tools for editors and authors, article production and hosting, liaison with abstracting and indexing services, and customer services. The APC, payable when your manuscript is editorially accepted and before publication, is charged to either you, or your funder, institution, or employer.
Open access publishing is not without costs - SIAI and FUP are not for profit - organization - IJAE therefore levies an article-processing charge of € 300 for each article accepted for publication, plus VAT or local taxes where applicable.
The publication fee includes peer review, journal production, online hosting and archiving and professional copy-editing charges. Once the paper is accepted for publication, the author will receive an electronic invoice via email.
Reprints: Each author will receive a printed copy of the issue, plus the electronic version of the article published in PDF format.
PUBLICATION FREQUENCY
Papers will be published online three times per year.
A plagiarism check is performed using Crossref Similarity Check (iThenticate), to ensure the originality of submitted manuscripts.
Authors who publish with IJAE agree to the following terms:
- Authors retain the copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License (CC-BY-4.0) that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgment of the work's authorship and initial publication in IJAm.
