Abstract

Designed and built in less than a year, the Agip Motel represents the highest point of Mario Ridolfi’s visionary realism, which has a forerunner in the Torre dei Ristoranti of 1928. Placed between the ethical realism of the viale Etiopia Towers and the tormented manipulations of the Palazzo Comunale at Terni, it represents, at the gateway to Rome, the metaphor for the city itself, with a form that is suspended between collapse and ascension, wrapped around itself like a spiral column, fitted for a continuous plastic transformation.
