Abstract
The OCT Art Centre in Zibo, Shandong Province, a project by Studio Zhu Pei, is inscribed within the long-standing tradition of Chinese shan-shui landscape painting, engaging in a profound dialogue with the physical and historical-cultural context from which it emerges. Through the interplay between planimetric design and roof geometry, the project generates a complex inventory of porous spaces, suspended between interior and exterior and engaged in a dense mutual interaction. This is an architecture wherein the very material construct of the building becomes an opportunity to perpetuate and reinterpret deeply rooted construction knowledge and practices.
