La nuova Sapienza a Roma

Abstract

La Città Universitaria di Roma, uno degli interventi urbani più significativi nel panorama architettonico degli anni Trenta, opera corale unica nel suo genere, si presta a molteplici letture al di là del suo valore istituzionale. Lo spazio racchiuso nell’impronta basilicale è l’esito di un equilibrio di masse che in termini percettivi interagisce in modo calcolato con il fruitore; la fotografia aggiunge il fenomeno d’ambiente come fatto inatteso contribuendo a sua volta a riportare l’interesse verso l’architettura su un piano fisico oltre che simbolico.

The University City of Rome, one of the most significant urban interventions in the architectural scene during the Thirties, is a unique choral work which lends itself to multiple readings that go beyond its institutional value. The space enclosed in the trace of a basilica is the result of a balance of masses that, in perceptive terms, interacts in a calculated way with the user; photography adds the phenomenon of the environment as an unexpected fact, thus contributing in turn to bring back the interest in architecture to a physical as well as symbolical level.
