Dove affiorano le rocce. Il tempio rupestre di Demetra nella Macchia delle Valli di Vetralla

Abstract

Nel territorio dell’Etruria Rupestre, lungo il limite di un fitto bosco di querce, nel contesto di una antica cava per l’estrazione del peperino, tra gli affioramenti di segni d’antiche frequentazioni, si rivela, protetto in un antro, un piccolo tempio dedicato a Demetra, l’etrusca Vei: un luogo che descrive la solidarietà mistica tra ambiente naturale e storia dell’umanità.

In the territory of rock-art Etruria, along the boundary of a thick oak forest and in the context of an ancient quarry for the extraction of volcanic tuff, among outcrops of ancient human presences, stands, protected in a cave, a small temple devoted to Demeter, the goddess which the Etruscans called Vei: a place that describes the mystical solidarity between natural environment and the history of humanity.
