La prima cosa che colpisce del Kimbell Museum è che in un edificio assolutamente moderno, aderente alle esigenze di un museo di oggi, lavora una forma fondamentale dell’architettura che risale all’epoca romana, quella che abbiamo imparato a conoscere negli impianti delle piscine, delle riserve d’acqua. Che cos’è che rende il Kimbell Museum capace di rinnovare la forma della cisterna? L’aver deciso di farci entrare la luce. Aver ridotto a “rovina” una cisterna romana e, avendola ridotta a rovina infrangendo la volta, averla resa compatibile con un uso nuovo e diverso.The first thing that strikes one about the Kimbell Museum is the fact that one of the fundamental forms of architecture that dates back to Roman times, an element we have all come to know from swimming pools and water reservoirs, is at work in an absolutely modern building that meets the requirements of a contemporary museum.
