Abstract
This contribution focuses on the content of a letter by Antonio Lupis (1620–1700) included in Le finezze de’ pennelli italiani by the Perugian painter Luigi Scaramuccia, published in Pavia in 1674. In this letter, Lupis, employing language and rhetorical devices typical of the period, provides a detailed account of Scaramuccia’s activity, including works later lost or transferred to prestigious collections. This is therefore a text of considerable interest, which allows for a deeper understanding of Scaramuccia’s work and the important relationships the painter cultivated, primarily in Pavia. Moreover, the paper contributes to a better understanding of Lupis’s extensive literary activity, in which the figurative arts occupy a position of absolute importance.
