Abstract
The landscape is approached as history, as representation and as an epistemological issue: from the painted image to modern theory, and up to the contemporary crisis of the “metaphysics of the landscape”. Drawing on figures such as Rudolph Borchardt, Yves Bonnefoy, Friedrich Hegel, Adolf Loos, Roger Caillois and Giosuè Carducci, the text offers a alternative perspective, in which landscapes are no longer seen merely as sceneries, but also as concrete, enduring places, measurable “at a walking pace”, in which memory and community are re-established through the project of “inhabiting the world”.
