Ogni architettura religiosa di Alvaro Siza porta impressa nelle sue forme una propria sacralità insieme laica e trascendente, dove la particolare modulazione della luce sembra condensare, in un’emozionante complessità atmosferica, conoscenza profonda del contesto e sapienza figurativa e simbolica. La lettura ravvicinata di due piccoli oratori, le cappelle di Lousada in Portogallo e Miljana in Croazia, confrontabili ma profondamente diverse, dimostra la straordinaria capacità evocativa e poetica dell’architetto portoghese.

Each of Alvaro Siza's religious architectures expresses through its forms a sacred quality that is at once secular and transcendent. The distinct modulation of light in his works creates a stimulating and emotional atmosphere which reveals a deep knowledge of the context, along with a refined figurative and symbolic know-how. A comparative analysis of the chapels of Lousada in Portugal and Miljana in Croatia, similar in scale and function, yet also profoundly different, highlights the extraordinary evocative and poetical sensibility of the Portuguese architect.
