Abstract

The concepts of public space and urban democracy have different meanings in Japanese and Western cities. The article discusses some of the trends of local urban quality (re)production process in the context of globalization. A street of Tokyo, Kuhonbutsugawa Ryokudô, is taken into consideration, and the social components, even minute, creating the collective structure of an urban space are analyzed.
