Abstract

In 1930 the Holy See appointed Mgr Paschal Robinson Apostolic
Nuncio to the Irish Free State. By establishing a nunciature in Dublin,
Vatican diplomacy obtained an important ‘observation post’ in
the heart of the English-speaking world. Thus the arrival in Dublin
of the Nuncio turned out to be beneficial for the Irish government’s
diplomatic relations. Investigation of this vital diplomatic exchange
have been carried out in the Vatican Secret Archives where unpublished
records are held.
