Abstract
Beginning with the notion of intérieur, the essay explores the processes of reciprocal assimilation between architecture and literature within the cultural and ideological context of 1940s Italy. After outlining the theoretical framework, it focuses on texts by Mario Praz and designs of Cesare Cattaneo and Federico Latini, in order to demonstrate how each discipline appropriated the methods of the other in a self-reflexive mode, thereby enacting a strategy of self-distancing from the intellectual and aesthetic codes formulated in the preceding decade.
