Abstract

The present contribution aims to analyse the play Hölderlin by Peter Weiss as a Dichterdrama, a poet’s play, thus exploring facets which lie beyond the traditional ideological-political reading and putting the play in the context of further writings of the 1960es and 70es. Autobiographical, poetological, and political dimensions come together in Weiss’s Hölderlin-portrait to form the very epitome of visionary utopian poetry.
